Thank you, Scott.

As you may know, Scott Mercs is moving on from his long role as local business owner and lease holder of the property in the heart of Manson’s Landing on which sits the Co-op, Sunset Restaurant, Marnie’s Bookstore, & Monkey Wrench Bikes.

On behalf of the Co-op, I’d like to express deep and sincere gratitude to Scott for stewarding this property with great community spirit and generosity. Scott played an important role in facilitating the birth of the Co-op in which he has always been a believer and supporter. In 2003 he vacated his little apartment on the South side of the Tak Restaurant so that the fledgling Co-op could move in. A year later, once the Co-op had proved itself viable and urgently needed to expand, he surrendered half of the physical space of his restaurant to accommodate us - all the while asking for rent well below market value in order to help us get on our feet.

Scott has consistently demonstrated that his priorities favour the enrichment of the Cortes community by going to great lengths so that businesses on this land can keep their doors open. He continues to be very generous during this transition, contributing time and materials to help things go smoothly.

Best wishes in your new endeavors, Scott. And, once again, thank you.

Moonhill Garden: "Picked By Hand - Delivered by Bike"

By Romina Wendall

Moonhill is a bicycle powered farm where organic fruits and vegetables are grown through natural gardening techniques. Practicing low impact, hand-worked cultivation and carbon free farming, Moonhill delivers fresh produce by bicycle to the Cortes Natural Food Co-op.

Moonhill specializes in greens. Red Russian and Curly Dock Kale, Cilantro, Arugula and Romain Lettuce are garden staples. For the 2010 growing season we have doubled our garden beds and are expanding into potatoes for our new Hugelkultur beds.
